Hello and thank you for visiting my blog.

I'm Jeff Wilson, a 39 year old guy in Southern California. I am first and foremost a father to my 3 year old son and a husband to my wonderful wife.

By day, I'm a SR. Systems Engineer for a global media business headquartered in Southern California, serving on the front lines of Information Technology in 2016. My career, like a lot of IT Pros, started on the help desk way back in 1999.

By night, I'm an amateur developer, tinkerer and homelab enthusiast with a focus on pushing myself forward in an industry that's shifting dramatically.

I hold a Master's Degree in Public Policy, and BA in History. I'm a licensed Amateur Radio operator, a cycling enthusiast and a voracious reader.

About this Blog

I've been blogging for over a decade, but this is my first blog running on the ultra-hip and cool Ghost platform. Ghost, if you're not familiar with it, is all blog & zero drama, and it utilizes some pretty awesome bits of tech:

  • NodeJS: the Javascript engine in Google's Chrome browser
  • Nginx: a lean and mean http/https server that's capable of hosting little blogs like this or load-balancing and off-loading TLS connections in front of a farm of http servers
  • Ghost The Ghost blog engine is mostly configured via Javascript and .css files. When I push the "Publish" button, Ghost and Nginx work together to spit-out static HTML via a reverse-web proxy in a way that's very similar to IIS and MVC. No more client/server php nonsense to worry about. Elegant!
  • All HTTPS, All the Time: You may have noticed that your connection to this blog is secured via a Domain-validated certificate. I purchased this certificate to cover my old blog, Agnostic Computing.com, and re-keyed it to cover Jeff.Wilson.Tech using OpenSSL. You can review my TLS config by running a check at SSL Labs.com by using any number of browser plugins (I like Calomel)
